Why ArtByte for the Arts, why not Bitcoin?

I am often asked why not just use Bitcoin to pay artists instead of ArtByte. In fact today some said to me, “Any coin can be used to pay artists. Why ArtByte?”

The reason ArtByte has been able to achieve real user growth is exactly because it is a niche coin. The strength of ArtByte is its social platform focused on artists, and the fact that the ArtByte Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to solving the age-old problem of low artists’ pay.

I addressed this in more detail when I presented an outline of ArtByte’s Strategic Plan. Below is how one slide from the presentation answered this question:

The differentiation of ArtByte as being created specifically to meet the financial needs of artists, is key to gaining acceptance in this nontechnical community.

Social media is the platform of the digital age for promotion of artistic work. In just the first year, ArtByte’s social media community size and engagement was ranked by coingecko.com to be 53% of Bitcoin’s present position.

The early stage of ArtByte, coupled with it’s mining bonus for CPU miners, allows artists and fans to profitably mine from their laptop.

ArtByte is perceived by artists and many in the fintech community as a positive use of Bitcoin technology, free from past negative press.

ArtByte is designed to make sense to everyday users in every detail, and is presented free of technical jargon.

ArtByte is denominated to make sense, allowing for tips of 1000 ArtBytes vs. tips of 0.00429184 Bitcoins.

2017 New Year Double Tips for Artists & Art Fans!

Artists & fans, tip another artist and receive double tips yourself!

Start the new year right, during ArtByte’s double tips campaign!

How it works

When you, as an artist or fan tip an artist on Twitter, the ArtByte Foundation will tip you double the amount.

For example, if you tip another artist 300 ArtBytes, the foundation will give you 600!

You can tip as many artists as you like, we will double up to 500 ArtBytes per artist, so you will receive up to 1000 for each tip. Only one tip per artist.

Need some ArtByte’s to get started?

We will also give you 600 ArtBytes to get started!

Just tweet the following tweet to @ArtByteMe to get started:

Example: (Note, be sure to type the whole link: “http://artbyte.me” not just “artbyte.me” in your tweet)

screen-shot-2017-01-03-at-3-14-50-pm

Once you have some ArtBytes, go here to learn how to tip: http://tips.artbyte.me/

And your tipping tweets will be like this example:

Want to know more about ArtByte? http://artbyte.me

Artists of all kinds (musicians, actors, painters, dancers, sculptors, film makers, directors, photographers, etc) can receive tips, but must have a link to their website (for verification) for the fan giving the tip to receive double back.

You can only tip each artist once, and the double back bonus is limited to five tips per day. So if you tip more than five times a day, you will only get double back on the first five tipped each day.

Explaining digital currency to the Layman

How are digital currencies created?

Just like physical currencies, digital currencies like ArtByte don’t just pop into existence; they have to be made. In physical currencies, paper bills are printed and coins are minted by government agencies, then distributed into the banking system. In the same way, digital currencies must be created and distributed to users.

For a digital currency like ArtByte, the currency is created by a software application. This software runs on each computer connected to the ArtByte network. All of the computers connected to the network work together, sharing the complex calculations necessary to create each ArtByte, and a certain number of ArtBytes are created each day. This process is called mining, and is not free, as it costs computer power and electricity. To compensate computer owners for their work, ArtBytes are paid to the software users connected to the network.

How are balances kept and transactions processed?

Just like at your bank, your account balance and transactions are stored on a server. At your bank, the bank owns the server. But, as a digital currency, ArtByte’s account data resides on a peer-to-peer (computer-to-computer) network that consists of all the computers logged into the network. This allows for additional security as there is no single server that hackers can attack, and each transaction is verified by all the computers on the network.

Just like logging into your bank account with your browser, you can see your ArtByte balance and spend it using the ArtByte Wallet App. The wallet gives you all the info you need, just like using your browser for banking transactions. The Wallet App is available in several versions: Online, MAC, Windows, Android, and IOS.

ArtByte withdraws from the New York Market

Due to the requirements of the New York BitLicense, ArtByte (formerly AppleByte) has decided to withdraw from the New York market, effective August 7, 2015.

The ArtByte Foundation is a non-profit corporation dedicated to supporting artists around the world, through the technology of digital currencies.

ArtByte provides support to artists in several ways. Of these, the following services are no longer available to New York residents:

  • ArtByte grants and awards given to artists
  • ArtByte tipping apps, allowing fans to tip or support artists via social media
  • Official pool server, allowing artists and fans to earn ArtBytes
  • The Orchard (faucet) server that allows artists and fans to receive free ArtBytes daily

We believe regulation is good for the digital currency industry. However, from our review, the complexities and costs of complying with New York’s far-reaching regulations far exceed those of other jurisdictions.

ArtByte prefers to allocate our funds to supporting artists around the world. It is a shame that the artists of New York will be unable to participate.

ArtByte (formerly AppleByte) revolutionizes how artists are paid!

Bitcoin technology is disrupting more industries than the financial payments sector. ArtByte (formerly AppleByte), the digital currency supporting artists, offers a positive use of Bitcoin 1.0 technology and is revolutionizing how artists are supported, just as Bitcoin revolutionized financial payments.

From its inception on May 1, 2014, ArtByte (formerly AppleByte) has focused on building real user adoption among the artists and art lovers of the world. Coingecko.com (a top digital currency ranking site) ranks ArtByte the #5 digital currency in terms of community engagement, and in its first year ArtByte has achieved 53% of Bitcoin’s present position in terms of social media community size and engagement.

HOW ARTBYTE (formerly AppleByte) BENEFITS ARTISTS:

ArtByte integrates the technology behind Bitcoin and our social platform to support artists via five channels:

1.   Tips from fans via our social media tipping applications
2.   Promotion of artists’ works through our social media art community
3.   Grants and awards from the ArtByte Foundation
4.   Income from mining (creating) ArtBytes
5.   Sale of art for ArtBytes, such as our music download site, ArtByte Music Store

ArtByte’s elimination of cross-border fees and restrictions allow any fan, anywhere in the world, to support any artist, anywhere in the world.

HOW ARTBYTE BENEFITS BITCOIN ECOSYSTEM INVESTORS:

While Bitcoin 2.0 may be all the rage, Bitcoin 1.0 still provides excellent investment opportunities as real user adoption grows. Without a doubt the most profitable Bitcoin ecosystem investment to date accrued to the early adopters of Bitcoin. ArtByte was launched May 1, 2014 and is still in the early adopter phase.

WAYS TO INVEST IN ARTBYTE INCLUDE:

ArtByte supports all types of artists: musicians, painters, sculptors, actors, film makers, directors, editors, producers,
dancers, writers, photographers, designers, models, production team, etc.

The Age old Problem

Low pay for artists is both a historic and international problem, with cross-border transaction costs limiting worldwide support and artist’s stand-alone self-promotion efforts lacking bandwidth and expertise.

Current solutions for Artists

  • Self promotion by an artist via web and social media
  • Crowd funding of individual projects
  • Grants & awards
  • Cash tips for some types of live performing artists (i.e. musicians)
  • Artists holding second and third jobs to fund creative activity

  1. Digital tips and donations from fans via ArtByte social media tipping applications
  2. Promotion of artist’s works through ArtByte’s social media art community
  3. Grants and Awards from the ArtByte Foundation
  4. Income from mining (creating) ArtBytes
  5. Sale of art for ArtBytes, such as our music download site, music.artbyte.me

Advantages of supporting artists with ArtBytes vs. Cash

  • More than a social media “like” or “RT”, an ArtByte tip provides real financial support to artists
  • ArtBytes can be given by any fan anywhere in the world, to any artist anywhere in the world
  • Fans or artists do not need credit cards or bank accounts to give and/or receive ArtBytes
  • There are no governmental, corporate or regional restrictions, telling fans who they can support

AppleByte is changing its name to ArtByte

Over the next few weeks AppleByte will be changing its name to ArtByte.

We feel the new name better describes our purpose of supporting artists around the world.

AppleByte is headquartered in NYC. The name AppleByte was a play on the old saying, “Come to New York and take a bite out of the Big Apple”. However, AppleByte has grown considerably and has artists around the world, with a social media following of over 78,000 users. Outside the US, the meaning of the name AppleByte is not as clear.
